Financial Aid for Lynx Crossing housing
Conveniently pay through your MSU Denver account so your financial aid can kick in to help cover!
Your financial aid can help pay for your student housing options. Here is how it works:
- Apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at FAFSA.gov. Once we receive your FAFSA, we will work toward awarding you the financial aid available to you. We will notify you of the financial aid available to you via your student email or you can check your financial aid award via the Student Hub.
- Complete a housing application and contract.
- Your housing costs will be reflected on your MSU Denver student account and in your financial aid budget. At this point we may increase your financial aid award to help with your housing costs.
- The financial aid you are awarded and accept will pay your tuition, fees and any housing costs that are on your MSU Denver student bill.

Your Lynx Crossing housing costs will be billed to you through your student account if you complete a Lynx Crossing housing and dining contract by August 1, 2021. After completing a housing contract, you will receive an email from Financial Aid confirming an adjustment to your estimated cost and a revised financial aid award letter for the Lynx Crossing University-affiliated option. The Financial Aid Office is always available to help discuss options to help you pay for your educational costs.
Any aid you have accepted for the semester will pay through your student account automatically at the beginning of the term. Once your financial aid has paid to your student account, you may have a remaining balance which you will need to make payment arrangements for. If, however, there is any financial aid in excess of your student bill you will receive a refund to help with other educational costs like books, supplies, transportation, etc.
You may need to accept some or all of loans offered to you to help with costs on your student account. The best way to determine this is to compare your estimated costs for tuition, fees and housing for the year with the financial aid you have available. If the financial aid you have available for the year (not counting work-study funding or loans) is enough to cover the estimated tuition, fee and housing costs for the year then you may not need to borrow loans. If the estimated costs are higher than your estimated financial aid, then you may consider accepting loans to help pay the difference. To accept loans, you can click on the Award Info tab on the Financial Aid Menu in the Student Hub. Also keep an eye-out for informational emails to help you through the loan process.
If your financial aid isn’t enough to cover your housing costs, you have options:
- You could pay the balance out-of-pocket or set-up a payment plan with our Cashier Office. For information on our payment plans, go here.
- The federal student loans you were offered as a result of the FAFSA application can be accepted via your Student Hub. *Please note you are required to accept the loan on your Student Hub and also complete the Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN), both of which can be completed at studentaid.gov. For more information on loans offered as part of your financial aid award and how to access them, go here.
- If your federal student loans are not enough and your parents are able & willing to help you pay for college, they can apply for the Federal Parent PLUS Loan.
- For information on private educational loans, go here. *These may require a co-signer for approval.
- Speak to the financial aid office to discuss your potential options.
Contact the Financial Aid office after two business days of cancelling your Lynx Crossing housing and dining contract. Your Financial Aid award estimate will be adjusted based on your cancelled contract for the University-affiliated housing option.
